New York orthopedic surgeons providing charitable care to Cuba — 3 insights

Forty-seven healthcare professionals from New York are going to Cuba to perform more than 50 free orthopedic surgeries, The Record reports.

What you should know:

1. The Operation Walk Albany team is being led by Jared Roberts, MD, an orthopedic surgeon at Albany, N.Y.-based The Bone & Joint Center.

2. Four other surgeons will make the trip with Dr. Roberts to perform the procedures. The rest of the staff consists of support and physical therapy professionals.

3. The team raised $150,000 to pay for supplies and travel expenses for the weeklong trip.
