New York City-based Hospital for Special Surgery appointed Amy Fahrenkopf, MD, as general manager of HSS Health and senior vice president of HSS.

Dr. Fahrenkopf has served in leadership roles at Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield, Castlight Health, McKinsey & Co., and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. Her most recent role was as chief medical officer and senior vice president for value-based strategy for Socially Determined, a healthcare analytics firm based in Washington, D.C.

She will begin her new role on Nov. 4. "Dr. Fahrenkopf's appointment is a milestone in the accelerating development of HSS Health, which will contribute to disrupting the current healthcare model and expand access to our world-class musculoskeletal expertise," said HSS CEO Lou Shapiro. "Through this we will deliver new approaches for more proactive and reliable musculoskeletal care, bringing HSS wherever you are."

HSS Health aims to expand on the hospital's existing program for employers and includes self- and virtual care as well as a network of physical healthcare provider locations.
