The Healthcare Facilities Accreditation Program certified Saranac Lake, N.Y.-based Adirondack Health's total joint replacement center, the Press-Republican reports.

Adirondack Health was one of the first centers in the country to receive the HFAP certification. Joint replacement surgery director Bartlomiej Szczech, MD, is a member of HFAP's Joint Arthroplasty Technical Panel, which helped establish the national certification standards.

Dr. Szczech said the certification denotes a hospital's commitment to patient safety. "The HFAP certification program empowers organizations to strengthen community partnerships and patient confidence with ongoing quality improvement and strong patient outcomes," he said.
