A former Kansas City Spine and Sports Medicine medical assistant is suing several HCA entities, including HCA Midwest Health, after she was allegedly sexually harassed by a surgeon, the Kansas City Star reports.

What you should know:

1. The woman was allegedly harassed by Glenn Amundson, MD. The suit alleges Dr. Amundson made inappropriate comments and touched the medical assistant inappropriately on several occasions.

2. The suit claims several women have filed similar complaints with the facility's human resources department about Dr. Amundson. The medical assistant also filed a complaint. Human resources allegedly took no action against Dr. Amundson and decided to transfer the woman out of the practice.

3. The woman disagreed with the decision and suggested HR transfer Dr. Amundson. HR ultimately decided to transfer the woman regardless.

In her suit, she alleged HCA made working conditions "so intolerable that no reasonable person … would have continued working in the center." She was ultimately "constructively discharged" from the company. Neither the suit nor the Star elaborated on what that meant.

4. Dr. Amundson is no longer an employee of the center, but continues to practice in Kansas and Missouri with no disciplinary action on his record.

5. Kansas City Spine and Sports Medicine is part of Overland Park, Kan.-based Menorah Medical Group, which Overland Park-based HCA Midwest Health manages.

6. Nashville, Tenn.-based HCA Healthcare, HCA Human Resources, Menorah Medical Group, Dr. Amundson and HCA Midwest are all named as defendants in the case.
