Rachel Thompson, MD, of the Los Angeles-based Orthopaedic Institute for Children, went to Columbia to provide care to children.
What you should know:
1. Dr. Thompson went to Columbia as part of the Silver Service Children's Foundation.
2. A team of surgeons, nurses, anesthesiologists and pediatricians make up the foundation.
3. Dr. Thompson and the rest of the team evaluated more than 200 children and performed 50 procedures on 36 children.
4. This was Dr. Thompson's third trip to Columbia.
