Dr. Sanford Wright retires after nearly 40 years — 5 insights

Everett, Wash.-based Providence Medical Group's Cranial, Spine and Joint Clinic neurosurgeon Sanford Weight, MD, retired from surgery Feb. 8, taking a part-time position with Western Washington Medical Group's Orthopedic Sports, Spine & Hand Center in Everett, HeraldNet reports.

What you should know:

1. Dr. Wright will work with Ali Annisipoud, DO, and clinic manager Kathleen Sullivan at the center.

2. He'll also remain on Providence hospital's staff and continue his work on BestCarePath, an application designed to reduce clinical workloads.

3. Dr. Wright's career was celebrated at party. Several friends and colleagues spoke highly of him. Providence Health CEO Kim Williams said, "Dr. Wright is leaving an incredible legacy, particularly in the neurosciences."

4. He is also highly active in the community, Dr. Wright is one of the primary organizers of Everett's Christmas Spectacular, a song-and-dance extravaganza.

5. In his honor, Providence created the Sanford Wright Legacy Award, of which Matthew Beecroft, MD, was the first recipient.
