Orthopedic surgeon Dr. Stephen Bannar dies

Orthopedic surgeon Stephen Bannar, MD, died, Tahoe Daily Tribune reports.

Dr. Bannar was an orthopedic surgeon at South Lake Tahoe, Calif.-based Tahoe Center for Orthopedics, an affiliate of Barton Health in South Lake Tahoe.

With expertise in sports injuries and reconstruction, Dr. Bannar also specialized in trauma, arthroplasty and conditions of the shoulder, knee and hip.

In 2017, Dr. Bannar helped pioneer the health system's community wellness outings, which aim to provide nature-based experiences for area patients. Dr. Bannar also participated in various medical mission trips to provide orthopedic care to patients in developing areas such as Vietnam and St. Lucia in the Eastern Caribbean.

He was a member of the American Medical Association, Wilderness Medical Society and Orthopaedics Overseas.

After earning his medical degree from Hershey-based Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine, Dr. Bannar completed his residency at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston. He then underwent sports medicine fellowship training at the Tahoe Fracture and Orthopedic Clinic in South Lake Tahoe.
