Nicole Deal, MD, is an orthopedic surgeon at the University of Virginia Health System in Charlottesville.
With expertise in hand, wrist and elbow trauma and reconstruction, Dr. Deal serves as co-director of the UVA Hand Center.
At UVA, Dr. Deal is an associate orthopedics professor as well as director of the health system's hand surgery fellowship program.
Dr. Deal has published more than 20 peer-reviewed papers in medical journals, such as the Journal of Hand Surgery and Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery.
She is a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and American Society of Surgery for the Hand.
After earning her medical degree from Charleston-based Medical University of South Carolina, Dr. Deal completed a physician scientist postdoctoral fellowship through the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Md. She then completed both her residency as well as a hand and upper extremity surgery and microsurgery fellowship at Winston-Salem, N.C.-based Wake Forest University.
