An orthopedic surgeon will lead Cleveland Clinic's Florida region under a restructuring plan that would begin early next year.

Here are five things to know:

1. Cleveland Clinic aims to restructure its leadership team in Florida, appointing orthopedic surgeon Wael Barsoum, MD, president and CEO of Cleveland Clinic Florida region as the health system adds Stuart, Fla.-based Martin Health System and Vero Beach, Fla.-based Indian River Medical Center. Robert Lord Jr., will remain president of Martin Health System post-integration.

2. Dr. Barsoum is the current president and CEO of Cleveland Clinic Florida medical center in Weston and has been a member of Cleveland Clinic's staff since 2003. He has a special interest in adult reconstructive surgery and has experience improving clinical outcomes, patient experience and hospital operations.

3. Under the new leadership structure, orthopedic surgeon and chair of Cleveland Clinic's Orthopaedic and Rheumatologic Institute Joseph Iannotti, MD, PhD, was named chief of staff for the Cleveland Clinic Florida region. Dr. Iannotti has experience as co-director of the Orthopaedic Research Center, and he has been involved in clinical integration, care path creation and creating cost-efficiencies.

4. The new leadership structure will also promote Rodolfo Blandon, MD, to president of Cleveland Clinic Florida medical center in Weston, the position Dr. Barsoum previously held. An interventional radiologist, Dr. Blandon previously served as chief of staff for the hospital. Gregory Rosencrance, MD, will become the president of Indian River Medical Center; he is currently the chairman of Cleveland Clinic's Medicine Institute.

5. The health system plans to appoint additional leaders of the region as its structure continues to evolve.
