Cleveland Clinic taps Dr. Brendan Patterson as orthopedic chairman: 5 insights

Cleveland Clinic named Brandan Patterson, MD, chair of orthopedic surgery.

Here are five insights:

1. As orthopedic surgery chair, Dr. Patterson will lead a team of 325 employees, including 35 physicians. He succeeds Michael Mont, MD.

2. Dr. Patterson specializes in limb salvage, complex fractures and adult reconstruction. He is an American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgery fellow and a member of the Orthopaedic Trauma Association.

3. Dr. Patterson joined Cleveland Clinic in 2017. In addition to his position as orthopedic surgery chair, Dr. Patterson serve as chair of the health system's pain management committee.

4. Previously, Dr. Patterson served as orthopedic surgery chair at Cleveland-based MetroHealth. In 2012, he became a professor at Cleveland-based Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine.

5. After earning his medical degree from Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine, Dr. Patterson completed his residency at New York City-based Hospital for Special Surgery. He underwent fellowship training at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.
