Irvine, Calif.-based Hoag Orthopedic Institute co-hosted the 10th annual Orthopedic Nursing Symposium along with the National Association of Orthopaedic Nurses' Orange County chapter Oct. 1.
Here are three things to know:
1. More than 150 nurses from across California attended the event to learn about best practices in orthopedic nursing.
2. Speakers included several HOI surgeons and nurses, who addressed topics such as:
- Postoperative pain management and the opioid crisis
- The role of a patient educator in an orthopedic specialty hospital
- Infection prevention in orthopedic surgery
3. A nurse navigator guides each HOI inpatient through the continuum of care.
