Nebraska orthopedic surgeon & former college athlete inducted into football hall of fame: 3 takeaways

Omaha, Neb.-based CHI Health orthopedic surgeon Casey Beran, MD, was inducted into the 2018 Nebraska Football Hall of Fame in Lincoln Sept. 14, The Grand Island Independent reports.

Here are three things to know:

1. Dr. Beran was the first Chadron (Neb.) State College player to earn both All-America and Academic All-America accolades in the same season.

2. In 2000, he was named Omaha World-Herald's Nebraska State College Athlete of the Year, with 182 career tackles, 35 sacks on defense and 11 touchdowns as a fullback.

3. Dr. Beran serves as an orthopedics instructor at Creighton University School of Medicine in Omaha.
