Orthopedic surgeon to know: Dr. Alton Barron of ATX Orthopedics

Alton Barron, MD, is an orthopedic surgeon at ATX Orthopedics in Austin, Texas.

Dr. Barron previously held academic teaching positions at Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons and Mount Sinai Icahn School of Medicine, both in New York City.

With expertise in shoulder, elbow and hand surgery, Dr. Barron has been a treating physician for the Metropolitan Opera and the New York Philharmonic Orchestra for the past 17 years. Dr. Barron founded the Musician Treatment Foundation in 2017 to provide surgical care for more musicians in need. He serves as the foundation's founder and executive director.

Dr. Barron is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons, American Society for Surgery of the Hand and New York Society for Surgery of the Hand.

After earning his medical degree from and completing his orthopedic residency at New Orleans-based Tulane University School of Medicine, Dr. Barron completed fellowships in shoulder surgery at Columbia University and hand surgery at C.V. Starr Hand Surgery Center-Mount Sinai West, both in New York City.
