Orthopedic surgeon to know: Dr. Reid Abrams of UC San Diego Health

Reid A. Abrams, MD, is an orthopedic surgeon at UC San Diego Health.

UC San Diego Health recently named Dr. Abrams interim chair of orthopedic surgery, tasking him with guiding advancements in the department's clinical, research and teaching efforts.

Dr. Abrams was previously hand and microvascular surgery chief and orthopedic surgery department vice chairman.

Castle Connolly Medical selected Dr. Abrams as a “Best Doctor in America," San Diego Magazine recognized him as a Top Doctor in San Diego, and U.S. News & World Report ranked him in the top 1 percent of hand surgeons.

He is a four-time recipient of the the UC San Diego Orthopedic Surgery Resident Teaching Award.

Dr. Abrams graduated from the Aurora-based University of Colorado School of Medicine, where he also completed a residency. He underwent fellowship training at Rady Children's Hospital in San Diego and Boston-based Harvard Medical School.
