Orthopedic surgeon to know: Dr. John Richmond of Boston Sports & Shoulder Center

John Richmond, MD, is an orthopedic surgeon at Boston Sports & Shoulder Center.

Dr. Richmond is medical director for network development at Boston-based New England Baptist Hospital, where he previously served as chairman of orthopedic surgery for more than a decade.

Dr. Richmond is a professor of orthopedic surgery at his alma mater, Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston. He spent 25 years as head team physician for the university's athletic department and now serves as a program consultant.

Dr. Richmond is a member of several professional societies, including the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and Arthroscopy Association of North America. He is a past Eastern Orthopaedic Association president.

After earning his medical degree from Tufts University School of Medicine, Dr. Richmond completed residencies at Tufts University and Philadelphia-based Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, where he also completed a general surgery internship.
