Orthopedic oncologist Dr. James Wittig joins Atlantic Health System leadership: 3 insights

N.J.-based Atlantic Health System named James Wittig, MD, as the medical director of orthopedic oncology and chairman of the orthopedics department at Morristown (N.J.) Medical Center.

Here are three things to know.

 

1. Dr. Wittig will be responsible for performance across Atlantic Health System's six hospitals.

 

2. Dr. Wittig is one of approximately 100 orthopedic oncologists in the U.S. He specializes in pediatric and adult bone and soft tissue cancers and benign tumors and metastatic cancers. He is actively involved in clinical research, and Dr. Wittig wrote and co-edited Techniques in Orthopedic Surgical Oncology, the only textbook detailing surgical procedures in orthopedic oncology.

 

3. He received his medical degree from New York University School of Medicine in New York City. Dr. Wittig underwent fellowship training at the Washington Cancer Institute of the Washington Hospital Center and Children's National Medical Center in D.C. During the fellowship, he served as sarcoma consultant to the surgical and pediatric oncology branches of the National Cancer Institute of the NIH.
