Orthopedic surgeon to know: Dr. James Andrews of Andrews Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine Institute

James Andrews, MD, is an orthopedic surgeon at Gulf Breeze, Fla.-based Andrews Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine Institute.

Dr. Andrews is also co-founder, chairman and medical director of the American Sports Medicine Institute, and a founding member of Andrews Sports Medicine and Orthopaedic Center. Both organizations are based in

Birmingham, Ala.

 

Dr. Andrews serves as senior consultant for the Washington Redskins football team and orthopedic medical director for the Tampa Bay Rays baseball team. He recently performed Tommy John surgery on Detroit Tigers

prospect Bryan Garcia. 

 

A native of Homer, La., Dr. Andrews earned his medical degree from the Louisiana State University School of Medicine in New Orleans and attended Tulane Medical School for an orthopedic residency, also in New

Orleans. He completed surgical fellowships at the Charlottesville, Va.-based University of Virginia School of Medicine and the University of Lyon in Lyon, France.
