Dr. Jeffrey Geller brings Columbia University's orthopedic care to Westchester, NY

NewYork-Presbyterian Lawrence Hospital in Bronxville, Westchester County joined forces with New York City-based Columbia University Medical Center to provide a wider range of surgical and nonoperative orthopedic services, Bridgeport Daily Voice reports.

Jeffrey Geller, MD, is the chief of orthopedic surgery at NYP Lawrence Hospital and the chief and director of research in the division of knee and hip reconstruction at CUMC's department of orthopedic surgery. Dr. Geller says the goal of the collaboration is to bring New York City-level care and a full range of orthopedic subspecialty care to Westchester.

"We are very conservative in our care and choose nonoperative approaches first and foremost," Dr. Geller told Bridgeport Daily Voice. "However, if surgery is necessary, it is nice to know that you can have the surgery right here at NYP Lawrence, which means you do not have to travel to New York City for your care."

Dr. Geller aims to establish a large orthopedic trauma service in the Westchester region, citing increasing hip fracture rates, particularly among the elderly. His other major initiative is pre-emptive pain control, the prevention of surgical pain before orthopedic surgery.
