Mayo Noerdlinger of York (Maine) Hospital is now performing total shoulder replacement surgery using the ExactechGPS, according to Fosters News.
Here are four takeaways:
1. ExactechGPS uses a probe placed in the patient's bone to pick up contours of his or her shoulder and matches them to the image take before surgery. Additionally, the probe guides Dr. Noerdlinger to place pins precisely.
2. York Hospital became the first hospital in the Northeast to offer ExactechGPS in June 2017.
3. Last year the hospital began offering knee replacement surgery using similar technology that marries preoperative images with operation images.
4. Other medical centers that have integrated ExactechGPS include Stanford (Calif.) University Medical Center, Cleveland Clinic and Hospital for Joint Disease in New York City.
