Orthopedic surgeon to know: Dr. Keith Baumgarten of Orthopedic Institute

Keith M. Baumgarten, MD, is an orthopedic surgeon at Sioux Falls, S.D.-based Orthopedic Institute.

Dr. Baumgarten has served as associate physician with the New York Mets, St. Louis Rams, St. Louis Blues and St. Louis Cardinals over the course of his career and currently serves as head team physician for the Sioux Falls Stampede, the Sioux Falls Canaries and Madison, S.D.-based Dakota State University.

 

He has been presented with several awards for his research on shoulder and ACL injuries and has published many journal articles and book chapters.

 

An elected member of the American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons, Dr. Baumgarten specializes in ACL reconstruction, arthroscopic rotator cuff and labral repair, hip arthroscopy, knee surgery, reverse total shoulder replacement, sports medicine and total shoulder replacement.

 

Dr. Baumgarten is involved with the MOON group, which was recently awarded an $8 million NIH research grant to study best practices in rotator cuff repair.

 

After obtaining his medical degree at Baltimore-based Johns Hopkins University, Dr. Baumgarten completed a residency at Washington University in St. Louis and underwent sports medicine and shoulder surgery fellowship training at New York City-based Hospital for Special Surgery.
