Yale New Haven (Conn.) Hospital's Center for Muscoskeletal Care is treating hip fracture patients quicker and more efficiently, according to The Register Citizen.

Here are five things to know:

1. Hip fracture patients have been brought straight to St. Raphael's emergency room since the Center for Muscoskeletal Care opened in February 2016.

2. Center for Muscoskeletal Care director Mary O'Connor, MD, said only 41.1 percent of hip fracture patients were operated on within 24 hours in 2015, whereas she hopes to increase the rate to 95 percent.

3. The center now holds an operating room each day and puts surgeons on call at all hours to specifically care for hip fracture patients.

4. Staff has also stopped using opioid; instead, patients are given an injectable nerve block.

5. The hospital plans to join the National Osteoporosis Registry to compare results with hospitals from across the country.
