Providence, R.I.-based The Miriam Hospital's Total Joint Center was awarded its second Joint Commission Gold Seal of Approval by The Joint Commission.

1. The certification awards the Total Joint Center's quality, consistency and safety of services and patient care based on The Joint Commission's standards.

2. Total Joint Center Program Director John A. Froelich, MD, said, "This advanced Joint Commission certification is recognition of The Miriam Hospital's team approach to ensuring patients have the best possible outcome. This is achieved by providing safe, state-of-the-art care, starting prior to surgery and through the rehabilitative process."

3. The Joint Commission performed an onsite review of The Miriam Hospital earlier this month, ultimately making the hospital one of 32 advanced total hip and knee centers in the country.

4. Advanced disease-specific care standards, total hip and knee replacement requirements were all evaluated.

5. The Miriam Hospital's Total Joint Center is the highest volume joint replacement program in the region, with more than 1,600 joint procedures performed in 2016.
