Ian M. Thompson, MD, is an orthopedic surgeon at Springfield Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Institute, a practice with locations in Springfield, Ohio, and Urbana, Ohio. He specializes in the treatment of knee, shoulder and sports-related conditions.

Dr. Thompson established Springfield Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Institute in 2005. He serves as the medical director of Springfield, Ohio-based Ohio Valley Surgical Hospital's sports medicine program. He is the team physician for Champion City Kings and Springfield, Ohio-based Catholic Central High School. Dr. Thompson is a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and holds memberships with the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine and Arthroscopy Association of North America, among other professional societies.

 

He earned his medical degree at Wayne State University in Detroit. He went on to complete an orthopedic surgery residency at Grand Rapids-based Michigan State University.
