The San Antonio Orthopaedic Group recently hired orthopedic surgeon, Thomas DeBerardino, MD. 

Here's what you should know.

 

1. Dr. DeBerardino is an orthopedic surgeon who specializes in arthroscopic surgery of the knee, shoulder and hip, and reconstructive surgery of the knee and shoulder.

 

2. Dr. DeBerardino is a retired U.S. Army veteran and a West Point graduate.

 

3. Dr. DeBerardino earned his medical degree from New York Medical College. He completed an internship and residency at the Tripler Army Medical Center, in Hawaii. He had a fellowship in sports medicine at the Brooke Army Medical Center at the United State's Military Academy's Keller Army Hospital, in New York. He became the chief of sports medicine service at the Brooke Army Medical Center before he moved back to West Point in 2001.

 

4. Dr. DeBerardino had a 24-year career in the Army reaching the rank of Colonel. Before his retirement in 2009, he was the Director of the West Point Sports Medicine Fellowship and the Head Team Physician for Army Athletics.

 

5. Dr. DeBerardino is an associate professor and the orthopedic team physician for the University of Connecticut Medical Center and the UCONN Athletic Department.

 

6. De. DeBerardino is a considered a pioneer of several open and arthroscopic knee and shoulder procedures.
