Dr. Tyson Cobb offers new surgical option for shoulder pain — 3 points

Orthopedic

Tyson Cobb, MD, an orthopedic surgeon at Orthopaedic Specialists in Davenport, Iowa, has introduced a new treatment for those with shoulder pain who aren't responding to more conservative methods.

Here are three key points:

1. Some of the common conditions related to shoulder pain are frozen shoulder (a thickening of the capsule surrounding the joint), rotator cuff tear, arthritis and shoulder instability.

2. The procedure is known as the Tenex Health TX System, and is performed by Dr. Cobb, generally at the Mississippi Valley Surgery Center.

3. The Tenex procedure uses minimally invasive techniques to remove the source of tendon pain quickly and safely. First, Dr. Cobb uses conventional ultrasound imaging to identify the location of the damaged tendon tissue, then delivers ultrasonic energy to the spot specifically designed to break up and remove damaged tissue, allowing for the tendon to heal and eliminating pain.
