Orthopedic surgeon to know: Dr. Richard Ferkel of Southern California Orthopedic Institute

Richard Ferkel, MD, is an orthopedic surgeon practicing at Southern California Orthopedic Institute. Dr. Ferkel specializes in sports medicine and is presently the director of the sports medicine fellowship program at Southern California Orthopedic Institute. He also is an assistant clinical professor at University of California in Los Angeles.

He has published various articles on the shoulder, knee, foot and ankle as well as sports medicine. He is the co-editor of the book Prosthetic Ligament Reconstruction of the Knee and the author of the textbook, Arthroscopic Surgery of the Foot and Ankle.

 

Dr. Ferkel spearheaded the Athletic Training Program at Southern California Institute. He has worked with U.S. Olympic teams including the U.S. Soccer Team, the Special Olympics and has served as a consultant to the NFL, MLA and NBA.

 

Dr. Ferkel obtained his medical degree from Northwestern University Medical School in Chicago and finished his orthopedic residency at UCLA. He went on to complete his sports medicine fellowship at Southern California Orthopedic Institute.
