Orthopedic

Select students from Dagsboro, Del.-based Indian River High School had the opportunity to perform mock orthopedic surgeries with respected female surgeons and engineers, according to Sussex County Post.

Here are four notes:

1. The event was held on Sept. 19 and was organized by The Perry Initiative. The Perry Initiative was founded in 2009 and aims to inspire young women to become leaders in orthopedic surgery and engineering.

2. Funding for the event was awarded based on student-submitted essays detailing why they wanted to work in STEM-based occupational fields.

3. Among the 40 selected participants, three Indian River School students were chosen to participate in the program.

4. Students repaired complex fractures as well as practiced suturing skills.
