Dr. Dean K. Matsuda uses hip arthroscopy to get athletes back in the game — 5 key points

Renowned orthopedic surgeon, Dean K. Matsuda, MD, performed minimally invasive hip arthroscopies on athletes, allowing them to return to their sports quickly.

Here are five key points:

 

1. Dr. Matsuda performed a hip arthroscopy on mixed martial artist Patrick Stoia. After a mere two months, Mr. Stoia can walk normally and is able to do light weightlifting.

 

2. Ryan Atkins, a wave surfer, underwent surgery to repair a fractured actual acetabulum, which did not heal properly following an accident 15 years prior. Dr. Matsuda utilized minimally invasive techniques to repair the fracture, treat the hip impingement and perform an arthroscopic labral reconstruction.

 

3. Mr. Atkins was able to leave the outpatient center within a couple hours and stopped taking pain medication two days after surgery.

 

4. Dr. Matsuda directs the Hip Arthroscopy Center of Excellence at DISC Sports & Spine Center in California.
