Orthopedic surgeon to know: Dr. Marc Hungerford of Mercy Orthopedic Specialty Hospital at Mercy Medical Center

Marc Hungerford, MD, was named the chief of orthopedics at Baltimore-based Mercy Orthopedic Specialty Hospital at Mercy Medical Center in August 2013. Dr. Hungerford is considered an expert in performing MAKOplasty knee resurfacing; he performed the first MAKOplasty in the state of Maryland in 2011 and was one the first in Maryland to perform anterior hip replacement.

Other areas of interest for Dr. Hungerford include anterior hip replacement, hip and knee preservation and arthritis avascular necrosis. In addition, Dr. Hungerford played a key role in launching The Joint Journey at Mercy, a patient-focused program guide and education resource for those undergoing hip and knee replacements. Dr. Hungerford was also named a top doctor by Baltimore Magazine and by U.S. News & World Report.

 

After earning his medical degree from Vanderbilt University School of Medicine in Nashville, Dr. Hungerford completed his internship, also at Vanderbilt, and went on to complete his residency at Johns Hopkins University Hospital in Baltimore.
