Orthopedic physician to know: Dr. David Ring of Massachusetts General Hospital

David Ring, MD, PhD, is chief of the Hand and Upper Extremity Service at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston and professor of orthopedic surgery at Harvard Medical School in Boston. He is certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery and American Board of Surgery.

Dr. Ring focuses on arm fractures, nonunions of fractures, stiffness, heterotopic ossification, elbow surgery, post-traumatic reconstruction and hand surgery. His research interests include common hand problems, psychosocial aspects of arm illness, complex arm trauma and post-traumatic sequellae.

 

Dr. Ring as published 160 original research papers, 150 reviews or book chapters and he has edited four books. He serves as deputy editor for The Journal of Hand Surgery and The Journal of Orthopaedic Trauma. He is also on the editorial boards of The Journal of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery and Shoulder & Elbow.

 

Dr. Ring earned his medical degree at the University of California at San Diego. He completed his residency Massachusetts General Hospital.
