Pediatric Orthopedic Society of North America named Lori A. Karol, MD, president, according to a Dallas/Fort Worth Healthcare Daily report.

Here are five important facts:

 

1. Dr. Karol is the first female president of POSNA.

 

2. She is assistant chief of staff at Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children and a professor of orthopedic surgery at UT Southwester Medical Center, both located in Dallas.

 

3. She is board-certified and has won numerous awards over the course of her career, such as the Arthur Heune Research Award from POSNA and the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons Achievement Award.

 

4. Dr. Karol is also the medical director of performance improvement and the movement science laboratory at Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children.

 

5. She completed her residency at Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit and a fellowship in pediatric orthopedics and scoliosis at Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children.
