Salisbury, Md.-based Peninsula Orthopaedic Associates is now offering minimally invasive hip replacement surgery using the direct anterior approach.
Here are four things to know:
1. The minimally invasive direct anterior hip replacement is performed by a specially trained orthopedic surgeon, Pasquale Petrera, MD.
2. Dr. Petrera completed specialized training in the approach from physicians at the Rothman Institute in Philadelphia.
"This surgical approach is unique because it allows me to keep the patient's muscle tissue intact by using a smaller incision and working between the muscles and tissues as the surgery progresses," said Dr. Petrera.
3. The procedure may offer certain advantages to patients, including shorter hospital stays, faster recovery and rehabilitation, and less blood loss.
4. Peninsula Orthopaedic Associates includes 14 physicians and five locations throughout Delaware and Maryland.
