Croom Medical, based in Ireland, has introduced a 3D-printed porous ingrowth platform for orthopedic implants, dubbed Biofuse, made with laser-powder-bed-fusion technology, according to a Sept. 17 report in Today’s Medical Developments.
Instead of adding coatings or extra machining, Biofuse builds porous structures directly into the implant during production. Croom claims this approach reduces the risk of defects, preserves strength and allows manufacturers to customize pore size and density to support bone growth.
