Hyalex Orthopaedics treats first patients with knee cartilage system

The first cases using Hyalex Orthopaedics’ knee cartilage system were completed as part of in-human clinical trials, the company said April 22.

The clinical trials are evaluating safety and performance in patients who need surgery for loss of articular cartilage in the knee femoral condyle, according to a news release. Study sites include New York City-based Hospital for Special Surgery and Portland-based Oregon Health & Science University.

Hyalex’s cartilage is designed to replicate the structure and function of hyaline cartilage and replace painful cartilage lesions.
