Arryo Grande has highest rate of hip mortality — 5 takeaways

Arryo Grande Community Medical Center (Calif.) had the highest rate of mortality in patients following a hip fracture in California, according to Cal Coast News.

Here are five takeaways:

 

1. In 2012 and 2013, 11 out of 94 patients (13.3 percent) who underwent hip surgeries at Arryo Grande Community Hospital died.

 

2. At Centinela Hospital Medical Center in Los Angeles, none of the 82 hip surgery patients died.

 

3. Statewide, nearly 5.4 percent of elderly patients who underwent surgery for hip fractures at California hospitals died within 30 days of admission.

 

4. The report, release by the Office of Statewide Health Planning and Development, included information from 302 hospitals.

 

5. Approximately 20,000 hip fractures occur each year in California.
