Dr. Steven Meier projects stem cell & regenerative medicine market to reach $24B by 2017 — 4 observations

Steven W. Meier, MD, an orthopedic surgeon practicing in Beverly Hills, Calif., discussed projections that the field for stem cell treatment and regenerative medicine will grow to $24 billion by 2017.

Here are four observations:

 

1. Dr. Meier and his team of specialists at Meier Orthopedic Sports and Regenerative Medicine in Beverly Hills, Calif., work on numerous forms of regenerative medicine.

 

2. More and more medical practitioners are turning to stem cells, platelet rich plasma and regenerative medicine to treat chronic pain and injuries that have not responded to, or have seen limited results, with more traditional treatments and surgery.

 

3. The National Football League Players Association made a multi-million dollar 10-year research grant to Harvard Medical School in Boston to help further develop the therapies.

 

4. Dr. Meier earned his medical degree from Loyola University Chicago, Stritch School of Medicine in Maywood, Ill., and completed his residency at Northwestern University School of Medicine in Chicago. He also completed a fellowship in shoulder, knee, arthroscopy and sports medicine at the University of California San Diego and Southern California Permanente Medical Group in San Diego.
