Here are three observations:
1. Brett C. Perricelli, MD, an orthopedic surgeon at St. Clair Hospital in Pittsburgh, said trial studies conducted in Europe have shown promising results.
2. Patients between the ages of 30 and 75 are still being enrolled in the U.S. clinical trial. Patients will be randomly assigned to get the standard non-surgical care or the plastic meniscus, followed by six weeks of rehabilitation.
3. Dr. Perricelli said the most ideal patient for the study is one who does not have arthritis.
