1. The study was conducted by Loren M. Fishman, MD, a physiatrist at Columbia University who specializes in rehabilitative medicine.
2. It took place from 2005 to 2009.
3. Results showed 11 practitioners had increased bone density in their spine and hips, compared with seven controls who did not practice yoga.
4. Some of the positive benefits of practicing yoga are better posture, improved balance, enhanced coordination, greater range of motion, higher strength, reduced levels of anxiety and better gait.
