Patrick A. Smith, MD, an orthopedic surgeon and sports medicine physician with Columbia (Mo.) Orthopaedic Group, and study author, examined 30 patients and performed a series of three weekly intra-articular ACP injections.
Here are three points:
1. Participants in the trial saw a 78 percent improvement in osteoarthritis baseline scores after receiving the three injections, the effects of which lasted for a year.
2. Researchers noted 76 to 77 percent reduction in stiffness and pain scores among participants.
3. The study is the first to explore the safety and efficacy of blood plasma injections specifically for the treatment of knee osteoarthritis.
