New York City-based Hospital for Special Surgery has appointed Austin Fragomen, MD, as chief of its Limb Lengthening and Complex Reconstruction Service, one of the leading programs of its kind worldwide.
Dr. Fragomen has practiced at HSS since 2005 and completed his fellowship in limb lengthening and complex reconstruction at the hospital. He succeeds S. Robert Rozbruch, MD, who founded the service in 2005 and will continue his clinical and research work at HSS, according to a Jan. 26 news release from the health system.
As chief, Dr. Fragomen will oversee care for patients with limb deformities, leg length discrepancies, post-traumatic complications and osseointegration limb replacements. The service also performs upper extremity reconstruction and limb salvage procedures.
Dr. Fragomen also directs the program’s fellowship and serves as a professor of clinical orthopedic surgery at Weill Cornell Medical College in New York City. He previously served as president of the Limb Lengthening and Reconstruction Society.
At the Becker’s 32nd Annual Meeting: The Business and Operations of ASCs, taking place October 29-31 in Chicago, ASC leaders, surgeons and healthcare executives will explore strategies to drive growth, enhance operational performance, navigate reimbursement challenges and prepare for the future of ambulatory surgery.
