How many hours a week do orthopedic surgeons spend with patients?

Orthopedic surgeons most commonly spend about 30 to 40 hours in an average week with patients, according to Medscape’s 2023 “Orthopedist Compensation Report,” published on May 24.

The amount of hours per week orthopedic surgeons reported spending with patients: 

Less than 30 hours: 23 percent 

Between 30 and 40 hours: 47 percent 

Between 41 and 50 hours: 22 percent 

Between 51 and 60 hours: 7 percent 

More than 60 hours: 2 percent
