New York City-based Hospital for Special Surgery named Anne Marie McDonald, EdD, RN, as its new chief nursing executive.

In the role she will provide strategic leadership for nursing across HSS’ sites and affiliates from quality to patient safety to workforce engagement, according to a Jan. 20 news release. Dr. McDonald will also oversee clinical support services including pharmacy, respiratory therapy and lab services.

She has held the interim CNE role since September.

“We are confident that under Anne Marie’s leadership, HSS will continue to advance Magnet-level excellence, improve clinical quality and patient-centered outcomes, and drive growth with discipline and distinction,” Bryan Kelly, MD, HSS president and CEO, said in the release. “Her appointment to this new role reflects our commitment to fostering visionary leadership that strengthens our nursing practice and elevates the patient experience.”

Dr. McDonald has been a registered nurse with more than 20 years of experience in clinical operations, quality, performance improvement and regulatory compliance.
