An Irvine, Calif.-based Hoag Orthopedic Institute orthopedic surgeon has become the first on the West Coast to perform a total hip arthroplasty using Corin’s ApolloHipX on the West Coast.
Travis Scudday, MD, has debuted the device, which allows surgeons to create more personalized plans for hip replacement patients, according to a June 23 news release sent to Becker’s.
More personalization for patients can lead to better arthroplasty outcomes and the minimization of soft-tissue disruption, according to the company.
Corin’s new Apollo application makes it the first robotic platform to combine dynamic 3D preoperative planning with real-time intraoperative assessment from standard fluoroscopy, aligning a single 2D X-ray with a patient-specific 3D plan to provide real-time 3D assessments of implant position.
The new approach reduces the number of intraoperative images required, minimizing surgical time and radiation exposure within the OR.
