Dr. Patel replaces James Caillouette, MD, a founder of the institute, who has served in the role for more than 10 years.
Dr. Caillouette assumed the board chair position on Jan. 1. He will remain an active surgeon with the institute, which performs the most hip and knee replacement surgeries in California, according to a Feb. 4 news release.
As chief strategy officer, Dr. Patel will oversee planning and strategy for the institute’s expansion and work with practice leaders, more than 80 orthopedic surgeons and 300 medical staff. He will continue to serve as co-director of the institute’s joint replacement fellowship.
In the last 10 years, the institute has grown to include an inpatient specialty hospital, two clinics and four ASCs, including its most recent facility in Marina del Rey, Calif.
Hoag Orthopedic Institute has performed almost 150,000 procedures since it was founded in 2008.
