Dr. Marone completed his orthopedic residency at the Eastern State Penitentiary in Philadelphia and went on to launch the Spinal Cord Injury Center at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia in 1978.
In 1972, he was appointed team physician for the Phillies — a role he held for over 25 years, according to his obituary.
In 2000, he became the associate dean of alumni relations for Thomas Jefferson University School of Medicine, where he mentored generations of students, residents and physicians.
Dr. Marone died at Thomas Jefferson Hospital on Oct. 11.
