Palm Beach Gardens (Fla.) Medical Center opened a renovated nine-bed Same-Day Surgery Unit for eligible patients undergoing select orthopedic, colorectal and general surgeries.
The unit supports patients recovering from procedures including shoulder, knee and hip replacements, colorectal surgery, hernia repair, appendectomy and cholecystectomy, according to an Aug. 19 news release.
Eligible patients are typically discharged within four to six hours after surgery. Surgeons evaluate patients before their procedures to determine whether same-day discharge is appropriate based on their medical condition, procedure and overall health.
The hospital coordinates durable medical equipment, post-acute care services and prescriptions before discharge. The unit also provides on-site physical therapy when appropriate.
At the Becker’s 32nd Annual Meeting: The Business and Operations of ASCs, taking place October 29-31 in Chicago, ASC leaders, surgeons and healthcare executives will explore strategies to drive growth, enhance operational performance, navigate reimbursement challenges and prepare for the future of ambulatory surgery.
