Here are nine orthopedic surgeons making the news.

1. Hospital Corporation of America named Glen Crawford, MD, winner of the Frist Award in the physician category, a 2015 Award of Distinction. The award recognizes HCA’s outstanding physicians, employees and volunteers at the local, divisional and national levels.

 

2. Penn Highlands Elk in St. Marys, Pa., welcomed orthopedic surgeon, Robert Metts, MD, to its medical staff. Dr. Metts is a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and served as a physician for the U.S. Navy.

 

3. The American Orthopaedic Society of Sports Medicine elected Charles Bush-Joseph, MD, to serve as vice president for 2015. He will also serve as president elect for 2016 and president for 2017.

 

4. Douglas Koch, MD, joined York General Health Care Services in Nebraska. Dr. Koch focuses on arthroscopic surgery, joint replacement and sports medicine.

 

5. Phelps Memorial Hospital in Sleepy Hollow, N.Y., welcomed Jason Hochfelder, MD. Dr. Hochfelder performs autologous chondrocyte implantation, which treats cartilage damage for younger patients.

 

6. Kevin Borchard, MD, joined The Memorial Hospital in Craig, Colo. Dr. Borchard previously served in the U.S. Air Force and spearheaded the launch of The Memorial Hospital’s Northwest Colorado Orthopaedic & Total Joint Center.

 

7. BayCare Clinic, located in Manitowoc, Wis., welcomed Brian Klika, MD, to its physician staff. Dr. Klika earned his medical degree from Chicago Medical School and completed his orthopedic surgery residency at the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine in Rochester, Minn.

 

8. Nathan Formaini, MD, joined Armstrong Orthopedic Associates in Kittanning, Pa. Dr. Formaini has a special interest in sports injuries in addition to shoulder and elbow injuries.

 

9. Daniel Ari Mendelson, MD, is leading an initiative that will launch a nationwide program focused on creating a collaborative geriatric care model for elderly hip fracture patients. Dr. Mendelson is the associate chief of medicine at Highland Hospital in Rochester, N.Y.
