Dr. Val Gene Iven retires as OSU head team physician

Val Gene Iven, MD, has retired from his role as head team physician for Oklahoma State University Athletics. 

He has served as the head team physician at the school since 2007 and worked in college athletics for more than three decades, according to a Feb. 16 news release from Oklahoma State University. 

Before joining Oklahoma State University Athletics, he served as head team physician for the University of Tennessee. 

Dr. Iven served as the NCAA Athletic Healthcare Administrator and Director of Sports Medicine for more than 10 years, and has been an active member of the Big 12 Conference Head Team Physicians Medical Advisory Committee.

Dr. Iven worked his 400th collegiate football game in 2025, the release said.
