Here’s what you need to know.

1. Dr. Neufeld said he isn’t solely responsible for the advent of total ankle replacements, but he believes his educational contributions to the procedure contributed to its advancement.

“I put together a team – the first one in the country, to my knowledge – that [offers] a multidisciplinary approach to treat ankle arthritis,” he said.

2. The total ankle replacement procedure can be done in a day, with patients feeling a noticeable decrease in ankle pain the next day.
