Dr. Sam Akhavan to provide care for the USA Rugby team at world cup: 4 things to know

Sam Akhavan, MD, has been selected to accompany the national team to the 2015 Rugby World Cup in the United Kingdom.

Here are four things to know:

 

1. Dr. Akhavan is an orthopedic surgeon practicing with Pittsburgh-based Allegheny Health Network.

 

2. He leads the orthopedic sports medicine fellowship and orthopedic research program at Allegheny General Hospital where he also serves as associate program director for the orthopedic residency.

 

3. He is a team physician for USA Rugby.

 

4. The Rugby World Cup will take place in 11 cities across England and Cardiff from Sept. 18 through Oct. 31.
